62nd Film Festival Locarno

62nd Film Festival Locarno

This is a 10-day film festival held in the "small Swiss-Italian town" of Locarno. This year, the organizers are recognizing anime with 2 different programs.

"Anime Now" has 6 TV episodes, from Code Geass, Gurren Lagaan, One Piece and Pokemon.

"Manga Impact" has many films from the 1920's to today, including "Barefoot Gen", "Anamatsu", "MS Gundam", "Broken Down Film" and "Metropolis".
There was also a special awarding of an Honorary Leopard prize to Isao Takahata (co-founder of Studio Ghibli).

There was a mention in the Japan Times yesterday that Tomino, director of the Gundam series, was going to receive a special honorary award, but the article doesn't seem to have made it onto the web, so I can't post a link to it.
