E-book Summit

CoFesta has upon us since September, but I haven't paid much attention to it because there's little regarding mainstream anime or manga that I'm interested in (that, and half the events have been in Osaka, Kyoto or Hokkaido). However, the "Electronics Book & Manga Summit" took place in the UDX building from Nov. 12 to the 14th, and it was convenient to drop by during lunch. There was a big symposium on the 12th in the Crossroads space on the second floor for those in the industry. I went on the 13th, and visited the auxiliary event space on the 4th floor. There were also presentations going on in the theater space but I didn't have time during my break to see what they were showing off.

The main show was in 2 parts. First, in the center of the room they set up display cases where you could look at the various e-readers on the market in Japan now. You can choose from something small and portable around the size of an iPhone, or a big screen the size of a magazine cover that you can curl up around at home instead of something paper based. All of the readers have pluses and minuses, so you need to be able to play with all of them to decide which one you want to settle for. The event wasn't that heavily attended - maybe 40-50 people in the auxiliary space while I was there. I did walk down to the theater space to see if they were giving away any freebies at the door, and there were only 2 other people heading in that direction with me (no freebies).

The second part consisted of e-book publishers like Quartet and Toppan, who were showing off the various novels and manga that are currently available for download. Manga titles include "Fruit Salad", "Nodame Cantible" and "The World God Only Knows".

The best part about going to the E-Book Summit is that as part of the information packet they handed out at the door was a set of anime postcards (Btooom, World God, Kaichuu (same pictures as are shown on the E-Summit home page)).

(Not sure why this photo isn't coming up. Seems to be a problem on the Mediafire end. I've tried deleting and re-uploading it and it still doesn't display right.)
