Preston Beer Event
The Crossfield space in the UDX building can be used for just about anything. Generally, it's just a rest area, with tables and chairs set up for shoppers to chill at during the day. It is used for cosplay events and as an art gallery. Every few months it's host to a job fair. A few months ago, they had the "moe sake" event.
But this is the first time I've seen it used as a beer garden. The event was to promote Preston Ales from Honda Sangyo (which seems to be a blanket corporation front that owns a Home Depot-like chain, and a bunch of other stuff).
(Moyashimon Bonnenkai (End of Year Party).)
As can be seen from the photos, the event included an outdoor drinking space, beer maids, a display showing the process of making beer, a children's play area, a manga corner and a goods shop. The manga was by Masayuki Ishikawa, and he'd been doing an autograph session for at least 5 hours, drawing pictures of his Moyshimon characters. The TVs in the corner played a movie from a DVD on sale, mixing live action slapstick with animated Moyshimons and graphs and charts of the beer making process.
Fortunately, the event ran past 5:00 PM, allowing me a chance to drop by and try a glass. They had a pilsner, a dark red ale and a hefeweisen, for 300 to 400 yen ($4-$5) per glass. I decided to try the red and the hefe. Both were good, strong ales that fit their style types. Definitely worth drinking.
(Take your shoes off and play with the cuddly little bacteria.)
(Or, draw them yourself.)
