Postage Stamps - Heidi

Japan Post has come out with #19 in their Anime Heroes series, this time it's Heidi - A Girl of the Alps. A sheet of ten 80 yen stamps for 800 yen ($9.50 USD). For those of you not familiar with it, Heidi was a 1974 anime TV series directed by Isao Takahata with layout and design by Hayao Miyazaki. The two of them would go on to co-found Studio Ghibli in 1985. Ghibli, of course, is the studio that produced Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponpoko, Ponyo and From Up on Poppy Hill. Heidi isn't the earliest series Miyazaki worked on (that would be Watchdog Bow Wow, in 1963, as an inbetweener), but it's definitely one that has huge nostalgia value for Japanese adults today.
