There's been construction work along the sidewalk in Tenmonkan for several months now. Initially, it was difficult to tell what it was for, with holes being dug around water pipes, and reinforcement blocks being laid down. Finally, though, the work finished and we now have partial covers over the sidewalk to protect half of the pedestrians from rain and volcano ash. To announce the completion of the "arcade project", the city had some kind of event with government officials giving speeches at 9 AM on a Saturday morning, followed by a stage performance by the local girl group, Southern Cross. I only heard about the event after the fact. But, it's amusing to see the banners hung along the top of the arcade cover.
(Southern Cross says, "Mission Accomplished!")
