Campaigning

Stupid season is back. It's like the political campaigning never ends. The last snap election for the lower diet was just 4 months ago, and now it's starting back up all over again. Cars with loud speakers cruise the city from 9 AM until 4 or 5 PM, blaring speeches by the candidates from every single party promising a new and better future and to return Japan back to the hands of the people. Exact same speeches that have been reused by every candidate from all of the parties for years now. Candidates make promises that everyone knows they can't keep, and the whole point is just to get enough members of a specific party elected to give the party as a whole a certain amount of leverage for amassing more funds or backing specific pork barrel projects. No one on the streets actually listens to the speeches, and when the candidates themselves rush around to shake people's hands, almost everyone changes directions to avoid them.

When the car loudspeakers start out with "I'm sorry to disturb you so early in the morning, but..." the standard public response is, "then why are you doing this? Just shut up already." But that would be too easy. Sigh.
