Nyanko (Cat) was a pub in south Kagoshima. More technically, it was an izakaya - a bar that serves finger food (but it went out of business only a few days after I took this photo). Izakaya is made of the kanji "居酒屋," for "house" and "a place that sells sake." What amuses me about this sign is the kanji for "sake," which looks like a face in the shape of a sake bottle, smoking a cigarette.
