Close to 10 years ago, now, there was a Japanese RPG game out for the PS2, called Dot:Hack. I got pretty involved in one of the play-for-points advertising campaigns for it, and I tried cataloging all the franchise tie-ins, which included a few short novels in Japanese. One of the books featured a character patterned after the lycoris flower, and I got kind of sensitized to the lycoris as a result. So, while I was walking to the school one day recently, I noticed the scattering of flowers in the bushes along one building on the way.
The little pocket camera didn't really do justice to the flower, but it tried.
2 days later, all the lycoris flowers were gone.
