Ohanami 2019

The weather has been really weird this year. Never cold enough to get snow, but sudden temperature drops within just the last few days. The cherry blossoms had come out in Tokyo almost a full week before they did farther south in Kyushu. Last Monday, there were only a few blossoms on one tree along the Kotsuki river, and on Sunday we were at full peak. The last couple of days have been t-shirt weather, too. Very unpredictable.

The last couple of years, this area had been used by the city of Kagoshima for hosting a "Night Viewing" festival, with food booths, lanterns and live jazz performances. So far, I've seen nothing advertising that for this year, so I'm thinking the city had been losing money on it and just gave up. A local NPO group had their Ohanami party a week and a half ago, with shared food and music, but I had to do shopping that day and I missed it.

This time next week, all the blossoms will be gone. Very fleeting.
