Danken Coffee Shop

There's a Japanese bakery chain called Backerei Danken. One of the store outlets is a couple blocks the otherside of the main train station. I've walked by it a few times, but never went inside. Turns out, though, that they're expanding into the coffee shop business, with a new cafe that just opened in Tenmonkan in mid-October. It's right on my route to and from the English school, and naturally I had to try it at least once.

Their coffee is in the 300 yen range (around $3 USD) for a regular drip blend, no refills. This is in keeping with the pricing for the other big chains like Tully's and Doutor. Their main menu items are toasts. There are 4 different breakfast-style toasts, and 4 pizza-style, $4 each. So, you're looking at $7 right here. Danken bakes their own bread, which is produced in large slices, and the pizza sauce is close to what you'd expect in the U.S. (meaning it's better than normal Japanese pizza sauces). The cafe is big and spacious, and all of the seating areas have 110 AC, and USB charger outlets. It's aimed at school students and housewives that like sitting and chatting. But, it's pricy, making it more in league with Komeda. Overall, I still prefer Tully's.
