I haven't seen a vending machine that sells alcohol in at least 8 years. And back then, companies were installing facial recognition cameras (that didn't recognize foreign faces, and could easily be fooled with a bit of cellophane tape). I think this is one of the pre-camera machines. But, that big gray box in the upper corner is a credit card reader, I think.
Or, you could go to the 7-11 across the street and get the exact same products for 20 yen less...
